My Journey From Luxury Travel Blogger To Family Lifestyle Content Creator

Eleven years ago, I decided to start my food and travel blog, SilverSpoon London. I was an avid blog reader myself and I loved to write about my passions. My blog was born, purely out of hobby… though as it coincided with my engagement and wedding, I had lots of content to put out. I’d always been passionate about luxury travel, even having worked in the industry and lots of my blog posts in the first year covered my honeymoon. That meant Michelin-starred cuisine, beautiful hotels and unique and luxurious experiences, and to my absolute surprise people were reading it. I was getting comments on my blog posts and followers on social media. Back then Instagram wasn’t big and TikTok didn’t exist… I focussed on Twitter and Facebook and loved watching my following climb up. It only took a few months before I was approached by brands for collaborations and press trips. I was nominated for and won awards and featured in National and International press, even the cover of a mMagazine… all for a little space on the internet that I started and run all by myself.

For years I loved creating my content plus actually generating an income from my passions; it was a dream come true.

In 2019 we welcomed our first son, Oscar and I already had plans on how to diversify my blog and start creating family travel content. Unfortunately, 2020 hit and we all know what that meant…COVID and the travel bans it bought with it. Not only was I not able to create food and travel content but I really lost my motivation. Though I kept up my blog and Instagram for intervening years my content was much less consistent, I wasn’t quite sure of my place or who my audience was.

However, in 2022 I found out I was pregnant with my second child and in May 2023 we had Noah. Having Noah was my greatest inspiration, he’s my little muse you might say and my passion for content creation was reignited. Now I knew exactly what sphere I wanted to be in and added ‘mum life’ and ‘parenting’ to my content. I re-evaluated my Instagram strategy and felt motivated and excited by it all again.

I think many people who had followed me for years had been through similar life changes and, like me, were looking for solutions to keep holidays child-friendly yet parent-pleasing. My content now includes travel tips, hotel and restaurant reviews and well as things to do in London but I also give the sides of motherhood that aren’t always picture perfect.

I redefined what luxury meant to me. Now it is about keeping my boys happy, watching their faces light up when they see an amazing swimming pool, enjoying good food and hotel entertainment. But ‘me time’ still matters, so I also looked for great food, a reliable kids club and a spa. While my passion for beautiful experiences remained, it’s expanded to include all the things that make my children smile but also make travel hassle-free. Luxury looks a bit different now but it’s even better! My blog and Instagram now reflects a true version who I am today. The mum who adores her children but doesn’t say no to a glass of champagne.

10 Ultimate Travel tips with children.

  1. Choose the destination wisely. Somewhere that is accessible, easy transport links, great accommodation and plenty for kids to do.

  2. Book accommodation that suits the family. We love a family suite in a hotel but apartments, AirBNB and villas may suit.

  3. Pack wisely – I try to be minimal and hire things when I’m there. Packing cubes are a great way to organise your luggage. BUT make sure you bring key things, travel pram is essential with young kids.

  4. Always bring snacks – need I say more…

  5. Plan – it’s not for everyone but I create an excel spreadsheet on activities and bookings before going away. With young children I keep activities fairly minimal, but I like to know what we’re doing!

  6. Be prepared for the flight - have a great selection of travel toys my favourites are sticker books, magnetic tiles, drawing boards and travel games.

  7. With young children try to stick loosely to their routine to prevent meltdowns!!

  8. Pack a mini first aid kit – don’t be caught short without calpol.

  9. Don’t let the unexpected throw you. Embrace a rainy day or a wrong turn.

  10. Take the photos, take the videos, you’ll never regret taking too many.
