12 Luxury Family Resorts Perfect for October Half Term
By October half term, summer is starting to feel like a distant memory — and the thought of a week away where everyone gets a proper break can feel very appealing.
But where is actually good at the end of October?
Across the Mediterranean, you can still find beautifully pleasant, sunny days, while destinations further south such as Cyprus, Crete and Tenerife give you a better chance of warmer temperatures. And if you're not chasing sunshine at all, the mountains can be just as appealing.
We've selected 12 luxury family resorts particularly worth knowing about for October half term. Some we've stayed at ourselves, others are popular choices amongst our travel community, but all have been selected with the things we know matter to families in mind: brilliant facilities for children, somewhere parents genuinely want to spend a week, great food and plenty to do.
1. Daios Cove, Crete
Best for: Contemporary five-star family luxury
Daios Cove is one of those hotels that proves family-friendly and genuinely luxurious don't have to be mutually exclusive.
We've stayed here ourselves and it's easy to understand why it has become such a favourite with families.
Built into a dramatic private cove in north-east Crete, the setting is spectacular. The architecture is contemporary, the private beach is beautiful and the whole resort has a sophisticated, grown-up feel.
Food is a real highlight, but families are also exceptionally well catered for, with a crèche for babies and toddlers, a complimentary children's club for older children, children's menus and plenty of activities.
Crete's southerly position is another reason Daios Cove comes high on our list for October half term.
Tinies verdict: A brilliant choice for parents who want a stylish five-star hotel experience without compromising on what the children need.

2. Ikos Olivia, Halkidiki, Greece
Best for: Effortless all-inclusive family luxury
If there is one family resort we know particularly well, it's Ikos Olivia.
We've now stayed three times with our children at different ages, and there is a reason we keep returning.
Set on the Halkidiki coast, Olivia manages that difficult balance of feeling genuinely luxurious while making life with children remarkably easy. There are beautiful landscaped grounds, a long beach, multiple pools, excellent restaurants and an extensive children's programme.
What really sets Ikos apart for us, however, is how little you have to think about once you arrive. So much is taken care of that parents feel like they've had a holiday too.
By late October you aren't booking Halkidiki for guaranteed summer heat, but you can still get lovely sunny, pleasant days — temperatures that can actually be much easier with small children than the intense heat of July and August.
Tinies verdict: If you want an easy luxury family holiday where almost everything is taken care of, Ikos Olivia remains one of our favourites.

3. Hillside Beach Club, Fethiye, Turkey
Best for: Active families and an incredible setting
Tucked into beautiful Kalemya Bay near Fethiye, Hillside Beach Club is a popular choice amongst our travel community — particularly for families who want plenty to do.
There are three private beaches and a particularly strong programme for children, from a parent-accompanied Baby Park for little ones to Kidside and activities for older children and teenagers.
What makes Hillside particularly appealing is the balance. Children have an enormous amount to do, but adults haven't been forgotten — there are quieter spaces, watersports, spa facilities and beautiful places to simply switch off.
For families with school-age children who want a holiday with plenty happening rather than spending seven days around one pool, it's a particularly interesting option.
Tinies verdict: One of the strongest choices on this list for active families and older children.
4. XO Cape Arnna, Fethiye, Turkey
Best for: Stylish, contemporary all-inclusive
XO Cape Arnna is one of the newer luxury family resorts making waves in Turkey and has quickly become a popular choice with families looking for something a little different.
It combines the ease of an all-inclusive family resort with a much more contemporary, design-conscious feel. For children, Lumi's World includes creative spaces, play areas and a junior chef studio, while the dedicated water park brings splash zones, pools and slides into the mix.
This is the kind of resort that feels designed for modern families who want the convenience of everything being on hand without necessarily wanting the aesthetic of a traditional family resort.
Tinies verdict: A fresh, design-led alternative to some of Turkey's more established luxury family resorts.
5. Martinhal Sagres, Algarve, Portugal
Best for: Exceptional facilities for younger families
Martinhal has built its reputation around doing family luxury exceptionally well — particularly for parents travelling with very young children.
Its childcare provision starts from babyhood and continues through different age groups right into the teenage years. Accommodation ranges from hotel rooms to multi-bedroom houses and villas, making it particularly practical for larger families too.
The Baby Concierge is another clever touch, allowing parents to pre-book many of the cumbersome things that make travelling with a baby feel like a military operation.
Late October in the Algarve isn't about guaranteed heat. Instead, think milder days, beaches, activities and a resort that genuinely understands the realities of travelling with small children.
Tinies verdict: Few luxury hotels understand the practicalities of travelling with babies and toddlers quite as well as Martinhal.

6. Almyra, Paphos, Cyprus
Best for: Stylish, smaller-scale family luxury
Almyra is one we've stayed at ourselves, and there was a lot we loved about it.
Rather than feeling like a large, self-contained resort, Almyra has a smaller, contemporary feel. The waterfront location is a huge part of its appeal: you can walk straight along to Paphos harbour, giving you plenty of restaurants and somewhere to explore beyond the hotel.
The food was another highlight for us, and staying at Almyra also gives you access to facilities at neighbouring sister hotel Annabelle. We particularly liked being able to use Annabelle's pools, which we actually preferred for family pool time.
Almyra has excellent family facilities and childcare too, so you get everything you need without feeling as though you've checked into a traditional family resort.
And Cyprus is one of the destinations we'd prioritise when warmth is important towards the end of October.
Tinies verdict: A lovely choice for families who want excellent food, stylish surroundings and the freedom to walk out of the hotel and explore.

7. Parklane, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Limassol, Cyprus
Best for: Five-star resort luxury with exceptional children's facilities
Parklane sits at the more polished, premium end of the family resort market.
This is a full five-star resort experience, with a private beach, extensive facilities, impressive dining and one of the most substantial children's offerings in Cyprus.
Its Explorers Kids Club is huge, with indoor and outdoor play areas, a castle and pirate-ship waterpark amongst the facilities.
But what makes Parklane particularly interesting is that the family infrastructure doesn't come at the expense of the adult experience. The service, restaurants, spa and overall finish firmly place it in luxury territory.
Tinies verdict: If you want extensive children's facilities without compromising on genuine five-star luxury, Parklane is one of the strongest Cyprus options.
8. Domes of Elounda, Crete
Best for: Stylish Greek luxury with a brilliant kids' club
Overlooking Spinalonga on Crete's north-east coast, Domes of Elounda combines a beautiful setting with the kind of polished, design-led experience that appeals just as much to parents as it does to children.
It's also a popular choice amongst our travel community, with the food, stylish surroundings and extensive children's offering among the things that make it stand out for families.
The kids' club and crèche are a serious part of the offering rather than an afterthought, with extensive opening hours and plenty to keep children occupied. That means parents can actually enjoy some of the things that make Domes feel special too — long lunches, the spa, the beach and that spectacular outlook towards Spinalonga.
Tinies verdict: A great choice for families who want excellent childcare alongside the food, design and atmosphere of a luxury Greek hotel.
9. OKU Andalusia, Spain
Best for: Design-conscious parents who still want brilliant children's facilities
OKU Andalusia represents a really interesting shift in family hotels.
It doesn't look or feel like a traditional family resort. The aesthetic is contemporary, relaxed and design-led — but behind that grown-up exterior is a genuinely extensive family offering.
There are indoor and outdoor kids' club spaces, a treehouse adventure playground, splash pool and activities including cooking, pottery and sport, plus a separate programme for older children.
Late October in southern Spain doesn't guarantee beach weather, but it can still bring beautifully pleasant, warm days. With small children, that can arguably be more enjoyable than the blazing temperatures of high summer — particularly if you want to explore as well as spend time around the pool.
Tinies verdict: One for stylish, contemporary parents who want the children's facilities of a family resort without the traditional family-resort aesthetic.
10. Bahía del Duque, Tenerife
Best for: Luxury family sunshine without going long-haul
If warmth is high on the October half-term wish list, Tenerife deserves its place.
Bahía del Duque is one of the island's established luxury hotels, set on the Costa Adeje coastline with tropical gardens, multiple pools and direct access to Playa del Duque.
It's a different proposition from a purpose-built family resort. Instead, you get the service, restaurants and surroundings of a classic luxury hotel with the facilities families need alongside them.
Tenerife's southerly position makes it one of the places we'd look to when reliable warmth matters but a long-haul flight doesn't appeal.
Tinies verdict: A classic luxury choice for families prioritising October sunshine.
11. Alpin Family Resort Seetal, Austria
Best for: An active autumn escape in the mountains
October half term doesn't have to mean chasing the sun.
Our Head of Social & Community, Carli, recently stayed at Alpin Family Resort Seetal with her family, giving us a first-hand look at what makes it work so well for families.
Set in the Zillertal in Tyrol, Seetal combines a beautiful mountain setting with extensive family facilities, including a heated indoor-to-outdoor infinity pool, huge adventure park, petting zoo, pony riding and childcare for babies through to older children. These were among the highlights of Carli's stay.
What stood out most was how well Seetal balanced family time with genuine downtime for parents. The childcare was incredibly flexible — the children could dip in and out of activities, while the team would happily bring them back if they wanted their parents — meaning Carli and her husband actually managed to switch off too.
Think crisp mountain air, outdoor adventures, cosy afternoons and a completely different kind of October family break.
Tinies verdict: A brilliant alternative for families who would choose mountain adventures over another week on a beach.

12. Ikos Kissamos, Crete
Best for: Ikos fans ready to try somewhere new
For families who already know and love the Ikos formula, Kissamos brings something particularly exciting: the familiar ease of the Ikos experience, this time in Crete.
For seasoned Ikos families, that's likely to be the real attraction. The concept that has made the brand so popular — high-quality dining, thoughtful service, children's facilities and a premium all-inclusive model — combined with a new resort to discover.
And the location matters for October. Crete is one of the Mediterranean destinations we'd look towards later in the season, giving Kissamos an interesting point of difference from Ikos Olivia for an October half-term break.
It also offers a very different way to experience Crete from somewhere such as Daios Cove: more of a complete all-inclusive resort experience, rather than the smaller, design-led luxury hotel feel of Daios.
Tinies verdict: One for seasoned Ikos-goers who love the ease of the concept but fancy experiencing it in Crete.
So, where would we actually choose?
There isn't one “best” October half-term resort because the right answer depends entirely on how your family likes to holiday.
For contemporary five-star luxury, we'd choose Daios Cove.
For effortless all-inclusive luxury, we'd return to Ikos Olivia.
For active families and older children, we'd look at Hillside Beach Club.
For something stylish and new, XO Cape Arnna stands out.
For exceptional facilities for babies and toddlers, we'd look at Martinhal Sagres.
For smaller-scale luxury, brilliant food and the ability to walk into town, we'd choose Almyra.
For extensive children's facilities alongside true five-star luxury, Parklane stands out.
For a better chance of October warmth, we'd look towards Cyprus, Crete or Tenerife.
And if we didn't want a beach holiday at all, Seetal offers something completely different: mountain air, outdoor adventures and an Alpine autumn.
