It Takes a Village: Finding Your Tribe in Motherhood

Finding your people in motherhood can change everything.

Those early days with a newborn are magical, but they can also feel isolating — especially once the excitement settles and real life begins again. That’s where the power of community steps in. A group of women who just get it can make all the difference between feeling alone and feeling supported.

Grace and Daisy knew this first hand. Their friendship deepened during maternity leave, when they realised how much easier — and more joyful — this season can be when you have someone walking alongside you. Someone who understands the tough days, the overwhelming love, and the moments when you feel a little lost in it all.

Out of their bond and a shared desire to make motherhood less lonely, Mummy Meet Ups was born: a community designed with the mother at the centre. A space where women can connect, feel understood, and make friendships that last far beyond the baby years.

In today’s feature, Grace and Daisy share the heart behind Mummy Meet Ups and how they’re working to build a village for every new mum who needs one.

Because motherhood was never meant to be a solo journey — and you don’t have to do it alone.

 Grace & Daisy

It’s a beautiful time in your life — you’ve had your first baby or added to your family, and you’ve lived in your baby bubble for a few weeks. It’s been wonderful. But as the days turn into weeks, the visitors start to dwindle, your partner is back at work, and you find yourself alone with your perfect bundle — which is lovely, but can also feel lonely. The days blur into feeds, naps, washing, chores, and suddenly you find yourself isolated and bored.

So, you start to look around for things to do. Baby sensory, baby storytime, baby yoga… but what about you?

This is where we come in. We’re two friends, Grace and Daisy, who have known each other for years but truly bonded over maternity leave, realising how much of a lifeline that connection could be.

We quickly realised that maternity leave was so much better with someone to share the trials and tribulations with — someone who understands your down days, your unwashed hair, and who you don’t have to apologise to if you’re running late or cancelling because of a sick baby. Someone who sympathises with the complex feeling of loving your newborn fiercely but still mourning parts of yourself. We realised how lucky we were to have each other — and how rare that is.

After a few soft play dates and baby classes, it became clear what was missing from traditional socialising: everything was centred around the baby. We decided to change that — and Mummy Meet Ups was born.

Our meet-ups focus on you. On making friends and meeting like-minded people without judgment or competition. Of course, we offer advice, recommend great products, and have baby activities happening — but the focus remains firmly on the mum.

New mums have so much to contend with, and we get it. Our hope is that you walk into our space and immediately feel supported, comfortable, and understood. The baby is the plus-one — these events are for you: to fill your own cup, to connect with other parents, and to build friendships that last beyond maternity leave.

We’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with some fantastic brands, which means we can offer lots of goodies at every meet-up — because every mum deserves a treat!

Our events run monthly, so keep an eye on our Instagram — and stay tuned for our Mum2Mum podcast coming very soon.

As the old saying goes, it takes a village — and we can’t wait to welcome you to ours!
