1. Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea Bus Tour
BEST FOR: Peppa fans aged 2–7
We recently tried Brigit’s Bakery’s 90-minute Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea Bus Tour with our children aged 2, 5 and 7 — and were genuinely surprised by how well it worked across the different ages. Our two-year-old loved Peppa and the cakes, while the older children loved spotting Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and London Bridge, with going over Tower Bridge a particular highlight. Add a lovely afternoon tea, Peppa entertainment and activity books and it makes a really special London day out.

2. Pip and Posy Live
BEST FOR: A first theatre trip | Ages 2–5
If Pip and Posy are favourites in your house, this is one for the autumn diary. Bringing Axel Scheffler’s much-loved characters to life on stage, Pip and Posy Live is designed especially for younger audiences and sounds like a lovely introduction to theatre for toddlers and preschoolers.
WHY IT’S ON OUR RADAR: Familiar characters + a show specifically designed for little audiences feels like a winning first theatre combination.
3. Totally Thames Festival
BEST FOR: A free London adventure | Throughout September
Every September, Totally Thames celebrates London’s famous river with a month-long programme of events, performances and activities. There are plenty of family-friendly and free events to discover, so we’d choose one that suits your children’s ages and build a day around it — perhaps adding a boat ride or walk along the South Bank.
WHY IT’S ON OUR RADAR: A brilliant way to experience London without another expensive family day out.
4. Pocket Money at Unicorn Theatre
BEST FOR: Older primary children | Ages 7–11
This new interactive show at the Unicorn Theatre caught our attention. Starting on 26th September, Pocket Money explores money, spending and the choices we make through games, a live DJ and an electronic voting system that lets the audience influence what happens.
WHY IT’S ON OUR RADAR: Financial literacy made genuinely fun — and something a little different for older children.
5. Inside Aardman: Wallace & Gromit and Friends
BEST FOR: Wallace & Gromit fans + creative kids
Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and Morph fans will love Inside Aardman at Young V&A. The exhibition takes families behind the scenes of the famous animation studio, with more than 150 objects including original models, sets, sketches and storyboards.
WHY WE LOVE YOUNG V&A: It’s one of our favourite London museums for children and you can combine the exhibition with the brilliant free Play, Imagine and Design galleries.
6. Buckingham Palace Summer Opening
BEST FOR: A special London day | Until 27th September
September is your last chance this year to take the children inside Buckingham Palace before the State Rooms close for the season. We think school-age children will probably get the most from exploring one of London’s most famous landmarks — and you can easily add a walk or picnic in St James’s Park afterwards.
WHY IT’S ON OUR RADAR: One of those quintessential London experiences that’s lovely to do with children at least once.
7. Dinosaur World Live
BEST FOR: Dinosaur-obsessed preschoolers | Ages 3+
You’ll need to be quick with this one. Dinosaur World Live finishes its London run at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre on 6th September, with life-sized dinosaur puppets including Triceratops and a rather enormous T-Rex.
WHY IT’S ON OUR RADAR: Dinosaurs + live theatre + the chance to meet some of them after the show. Enough said.
8. Open House Festival
BEST FOR: A completely different FREE day out | 12th–20th September
During Open House Festival, fascinating buildings and spaces across London open their doors, giving families the chance to explore places they wouldn’t ordinarily see — for free. Not every event is aimed at children, so browse the programme and pick something that suits your family.
WHY IT’S ON OUR RADAR: Free, different and a brilliant excuse to discover another side of London.
9. Big Dreams Festival at Polka Theatre
BEST FOR: Younger children | 19th–20th September
Polka Theatre’s Big Dreams Festival brings together a weekend of family performances, creative activities and special events. Everything at Polka is created with younger audiences in mind, making this a lovely alternative to committing to a big West End production.
WHY IT’S ON OUR RADAR: Theatre specifically created for little people — with plenty happening beyond simply sitting through a show.
10. Sound Explorers at Young V&A
BEST FOR: A free toddler/preschooler activity
If you’re looking for something genuinely free to do with younger children this September, Sound Explorers at Young V&A uses sound, music and play to help little ones explore the museum. Stay afterwards and explore the Play, Imagine and Design galleries for free too.
